Live at the BBQ

So...on Saturday I went to the SITUATIONORMAL Block Party event outside their downtown LA boutique, mostly because The Hundreds said, "Just go," in reference to it on their blog, even though they didn't follow their own advice - they went on a trip to the Bay area instead. The flyer promised food, drinks, and live performances. I rolled with Chadypooh and Karen (Foreign Famalam) and Andrew and Johan (3sixteen crew) and we arrived at the spot to discover a completely closed off block with a half pipe and some tents and a stage with a DJ spinning. First we went to check out Blends which is a dope new sneaker boutique more or less across the street from Situationormal on 4th. Blends is nice...sick sneaker selection and great staff. The real surprise though, was discovering 06+ which is sort of secretly hidden inside Blends. You enter the corridor and the serious looking rusted metal door automatically slides open and reveals a tiled wonderland of high-end casual clothing of the Junya Watanabe for Comme des Garcons variety. The clothes are incredible - but it's worth going just to see the incredible interior design of the store. They personally put up 6000 small white tiles and then proceeded to smash, damage, and smear them so that the place gives you the vibe that it's been there for a hundred years:

I strongly recommend you go check it out if you're in the area. After that we had to wait a while because Andrew and the homie Mike from Obey couldn't stop talking...

Then Mike's bro, hit us off with his awesome awesome new stickers...peep game:

At this point we were good and ready for some of the promised food and drink, but it turned out that you had to be on the guest list and we weren't. D'oh. Thanks Hundreds! I think we coulda finagled something but we decided to play it classy and go down the street to satisfy our appetites instead. They did announce that Wu-Tang was gonna perform at 4pm so that kinda livened us up a little bit so we could man up and dry our eyes. So we went to Petes cafe where you don't have to be on a list to get in. Believe it or not this is Chad's food BEFORE it went in his stomach:

When we finished and walked out of Pete's we almost bumped right into Redman, which is pretty much the best way to finish any meal as far as I'm concerned. Redman proceeded over to the legendary tent of fun and drinks that we couldn't enter, but before he disappeared into the fun world that was closed off to us, he took someone's skateboard and made a strong case for his new nickname that I've given him, Skateboard R:

At that point we were deep in the, "Ok so how long do we wait here for Wu to show?" game, which is actually an awesome game I've played many a time. Luckily some good peoples showed up including but not limited to Yas FX, Chulld Support (Freshjive), Farah (DG), Japors and his daughter, Danny (Freshjive), and the homie Brad from Estate too, I had to be back in Venice so I decided not to playing the wu-waiting game but it was nice to get out and see so many good heads in one spot and Chadypooh actually managed to not get a parking ticket for once which goes to show that miracles do happen.

The wu-waiting game was wack. I think fools are still standing on 4th playin' that game right now.
